Observe, Shapes & forms in photography

Shapes & forms are quite interesting and confusing topic to understand. But it is highly in-depth content of the photography. I am sure hardly a photographer ever discuss this topic to understand photography better. Every scene contains both shapes and forms because everything is a mixture of both, which is more interesting for a photographer that matters for him to capture. Let’s discuss both the concept in little details to clarify the confusion of both.

Shapes – A two-dimensional (length, breadth but no depth) outline of the subject or object that you capture. Light coming from the front and fall off on the subject, make more flat and two-dimentional image. See the below-posted image, an example of a two-dimensional image.

Forms – Forms is also connected somewhere with the shapes, A three-dimensional (length, breadth, and depth.) aspect created by lights and shade is called forms whears as light falls off on the subject from right, left side or sometimes light falloff on the back of the subject, creates a good or strong highlight and shadow is a good example of forms. Conclusion – Forms (highlight and shadows) always invite viewers to touch the subject, touch the depth etc whereas shapes sometimes fail to invite the viewers but that does not mean photographs that have shape do not impress the viewers. Both have a slightly different perspective. Choose your best way to produce the photographs.
